PCT is an approach that focuses on the 'here and now' and believes that the clients are the experts of their lives and hence will know the solutions to their struggles. I have been trained in this approach and will support you in a non-directive way.
ACT increases your flexibility and ability to accept yourself by fully entering your present moment to change or persist in your behaviour or emotions. I use this approach whilst keeping PCT as my foundation.
DBT helps us understand and analyze intense emotions and uses mindfulness to stop behaving impulsively to those intense emotions. I use this when clients need help with emotional regulation.
I use mindfulness with clients to help them by making them aware of their thoughts in the present moment without placing any judgements on them. This enables us to experience, feel and manage the emotions we tend to repress.
Some clients find it hard to voice their emotions. Why don't we express them on a piece of paper? PS: You don't have to be good at art for this method, if that's your worry!
